JG Outfitters founder Capt. John Paul Gorecki set sail from this world on February 19, 2026 at home in Moab, Utah surrounded by his loved ones.

John was a broker, a captain, a mentor and a guide.

Ultimately, he always said, his life’s work was about helping people get from one place to another … because new horizons are good!

It was with that mission that he settled down in Moab to launch JG Outfitters a little over a decade ago. Soon after establishing his business, he became highly regarded as a kind, knowledgeable and trusted guide in the backcountry and national parks of Utah. He found fulfillment in taking guests on a new adventure each and every day.

In his life, John mastered the art of marching only to the beat of his own drum while simultaneously living a life in service to others.

“Everything is going to work out perfectly,” John would always say, in steady faith. Now he’s onto his next adventure, just over the horizon … because new horizons are good.
